Reminds me of a fortune lost

It must have been in the early 60s (60 to 63 or so), my friend and I were on one of our bike trips. We bicycled to the mid 30s streets just off the Gowanus parkway. I guess everyone from Brooklyn if familiar with the factories located off the water. (It looks like a city unto itself).

Well, as we peddled down one block "exploring" we came upon a large opening in a building where trucks loaded and unloaded merchandise. No big deal until we saw in the corner a huge bin of discarded product --- the previous years TOPPS baseball cards. It turned out we were in the TOPPS baseball card building. The workers told us to take whatever we wanted. After all, it was destined to carted away with the other trash.

Of course in my infinite wisdom I saw no value in "last years" baseball cards. Luckily I took one pack to make fans for the wheels on my bike!
