Jerry Girardi, the father of New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, has died at the age of 81.

Funeral services are pending and will be held in Girardi's hometown of East Peoria, Ill.

Jerry Girardi had been battling Alzheimer's disease and spent the past several years in an assisted-care facility.

Joe Girardi has not publicly commented on his father's death. The Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in Game 4 of the AL Division Series
