Comcast tech support was not helpful. Only would verify I could access the internet and that speeds were normal. They were 20 MB/sec download, as I had already verified.
Did tracert to thechipboard.com and after things were about back to normal got a total of about 1 second. Pretty slow, but doesn't solve our multi second delays and hangs. I will do this again tomorrow after the 5 o'clock rush starts.
Here are Comcast DNS IP addresses: 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.75.76. At least that's what I seem to be using. There's also a Comcast DNS cache address of 87.106.52.106 for all of USA. Another site gave Comcast primary DNS as 68.87.69.146 and secondary as 68.87.85.98. I haven't tried using these on my PC but will tomorrow.
I think this problem is somehow Domain Name Server related, but I'm not well enough educated in ethernet protocols to do much more than try things.
I understand you don't have to use the DNS addresses your ISP gives you, but can use others like Google Public DNS. I may try this as well. Address is 8.8.8.8
I give this info in case you want to inquire of 1&1 on how they expect the network to find your site. Also, maybe another of our bb users will have some suggestions.
