So you're filing a claim for about $1200 on your homeowner's policy. Subtract your deductible (maybe $500) and you're getting only about $700. Not sure what kind of HO policy you have but you're looking at a three year surcharge, typically a 40%-70% increase in your annual premium. Say your current premium is $900. At next renewal, your premium may jump to something like $1500. That would be an extra $600 for three years, or $1800. Obviously, a $200 renters policy would be a different story. Hypothetical numbers but you get the point.
