I would also be interested in how to protect a collection under similar circumstances. In the past, I know I had protection during shipping while UPS or USPS had possession, but there is a definite vulnerability when a package sits at the hotel shipping room. Homeowners insurance might not always cover it, if they determine that a seller or trader is a "dealer."
