~~~ in one case, in one city, players were compelled to purchase counters from the casino and redeem them at face the end of the day... but not everyone would do so and they would make it out to the street where they were accepted everywhere by shopkeepers. There were some 200,000 issued when the casino first opened and they were used as coinage for several years until one day when the casino decided to recall them all. The 200,000 counters had grown to 400,000 counters and the casino paid cash for each and every one (real and fake)... and one variety of the fakes; four in all... and a silvered-brass variety; is prized more than the original silver today... grin
