Well I survived another worlds longest yard sale again this year. Was it hot this year? OF COURSE!! The good news is that there was a small breeze most of the time so it wasn't totally unbearable even though the temp got to around 99. This year I did the leg from Crossville, TN (I-40) to Cincinatti. So what sort of stuff do I buy at these sales? Just about anything you can think of including chips and dice of course. This year the first thing I bought was an old hand crank sewing machine for Cindy for $12. They normally go for $75-$100 so I got a good deal (not to mention an attaboy!) Both days I wore my "I BUY CASINO CHIPS" tee shirt and it got a lot of attention. In fact the one decent lot of chips I bought the dealer was chasing after me just becasue I had the shirt on. Didn't get any great chips but did get $24 in chips and tokens for $10. What else did I get? How about 6 tubes of toothpaste($1 each), 3 pounds of top name coffee for $7, 40 different type button type batteries for $3 (Did you ever buy one at wally world? They go for $3 each). A large box with hundreds of matchbooks for $3 (I needed at least 4 or 5 of the casino books). How about two pair of headphones for the grandkids? (Did you ever travel 12 hours with kids watching their DVD's with no headphones? Trust me - don't!). A 20 gallon aquarium with all of the extras for $8, also for the grandkids. Two very nice girly punchboards for $30. Coin tubes for the silver coins I get from yard sales. A silver strike and 1977 Canada $1 silver commemorative coin for $25. (OK I only broke even on this one. The seller misrepresented the coin. He said it was .999 fine and turns out there is only .375 OZ of silver in it. I didn't have a copy of the world coin value book with me. Solved that problem yesterday buy buying one online for $1.05 plus shipping!) I also got 1.25 OZ sterling jewelry for under $15. And the best buy (I think) was what looks like a Roseville number 321-9 console tray and a very nice Hull vase for $85. The Roseville only has the number on it which means it was made between 1931 and 1936 and even though I searched everything I could find online I could only find it in Blue and Brown, not the Green I have! The same with the Hull vase. I could find the pattern but not the same color. The Roseville should be worth at least $150 even in the current market. The Hull should be around $50. You just never know what you are going to find at the worlds longest yard sale.
