I believe it was never made illegal for an American resident to play on an internet poker site. I believe it was illegal for people to run an internet poker site for American based players, and I also believe it was illegal for companies to transfer money from US players onto the site. If I understand what I read, the poker sites allegedly committed fraudulent acts in allowing transfers from Americans onto their sites.
