My first scanner was a MicroTek ScanMaker 4800 which I purchased over ten years ago. Back then only CCD type scanners were sold; CIS is a newer technology.
My old MicroTek 4800 with CCD scanned colors extremely well but it used fluorescent lighting and start-up took a while.
With the newer LED lights on my Epson the start-up and scanning is almost instant.
I believe other brands will scan just as well as an Epson BUT I think the prices for an Epson are hard to beat.
