I also discovered the Cercle Numismatique de Nice (http://www.numismatiquenice.eu/). One member has written a book on old Nice casinos and their jetons/plaques/tokens/etc. I hope that will have much more info on these items. Maybe it will even have more info on John's painted plaque.
