Jim, I'm getting a bunch of these. New to me. Mentioned in The Gaming Table. I'll sell some on this board when I get them. Can't make it to the convention. ... ..... Know anything about the place? Operated in 1940's. Couldn't have been for a home game for a number of reasons, one being that this order was for 1000 chips (M is Latin for 1000). Nice the way it is so easy to put pictures on this board, in posts. Thanks David.

On the internet, I found out about Miles Davis (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991), the famous American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, he got his professional start at that club.
Miles graduated in June 1944. His first job as a full-fledged pro was with a band from New Orleans, fresh from a long run in Chicago, where a then-unknown singer named Joe Williams had worked with them. They were Adam Lambert's Brown Cats, and when they were booked for a date at the Club Belvedere in Springfield, Illinois, their trumpeter, Thomas Jefferson, returned to New Orleans. Miles was contacted and joined guitarist Lambert, pianist Phamous Lambert, bassist Duke Saunders, and drummer Stanley Williams for two weeks at no less than a hundred dollars per week. (The band, lest anyone should be misled, didn't play New Orleans style, but contemporary small-band swing.)
