We've taken Christmas Tree Pass over a dozen times, always in rental cars. Only time we ever had to turn back, it wouldn't have mattered what kind of vehicle we had because there was a huge washout from a flood.
The Pass used to have a section of "decorated trees"...actually I think they were mesquite bushes, and the "decorations" on many consisted of beer cans/bottles, plastic rings from 6-packs, balls of aluminum foil, as well as a few with actual Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, I didn't used to carry a camera so don't have any pictures from this era . It was sometimes rough going in those days!
Several years ago they graded & widened the Pass, so it's much easier now. The widening also removed the decorated trees. The scenery is just gorgeous...you should do it!
see...just a car....
