I called Hollywood in Tunica (where I am always comped) for a room Memorial day weekend. I have two free nights coming. I can understand if they are sold out but they told me that I could have a room for the weekend but that it would cost $99. I told them I had free nights coming and they said that the " coupon" rooms were sold out. Never had that happen before. Not a great way to treat your good customers.
As far as comps I play the game to the max. Hollywood sends me "free play" coupons good every week. If I can, I plan my trip so that I can use this weeks coupon today and next weeks coupon tomorrow. Most of their contests ($500 in free play drawing every 15 minutes) are on the weekends so that is normally when I go. They send me a coupon for a free buffet. Of course I use it friday night for the $23 crab and steak buffet. The also have a $.77 breakfast buffet on Saturday morning. The rest of my meals are using player card comps mainly from the $3 per hour they pay for the poker room. Heck I even get a free beer or glass of wine at the bar or table before heading into the buffet for dinner. Resorts (next door) has a $3 BJ table so I occasionally play there to build up a few comp dollars since they have a $1 anytime buffet for $1 in comps. When playing at the tables I always buy in for $100 since they track and comp based on the buy in as well as play. When the pit critter is watching me I always increase my bet if I can. Hollywood doesn't pay hardly anything for your BJ play (like $.25 per hour for minimum bets) but it helps with the free play and free room comps. If they are offering it I take advantage! You just have to know how to play the game.
