When I started collecting (harvesting) chips, I really had no preferrence for new chips. In fact, I put more value on those that were well used. In my mind, the romantic thing about collecting casino chips was with the history behind each eand every one.
How many hands of blackjack has this chip been involved in? How many dreams were realized or crushed? Did it ever travel outside the casino/state/country? Where? Was it ever handled by somone famous?
Since I have started collecting more seriously, I have started putting a higher value on newer better condition chips because of their resale value but I still sometimes struggle with it. For instance, if I am holding two Sands chips that were in play during the Rat Pack era, one uncirculated and one well used......which one do I prefer? I know that that the uncirculated chip will bring more on resale but which one do "I" prefer? The uncirculated chip may have never even seen the inside of the casino. Or if it did, it didn't make it to a table. The possibilities of the well used chip are endless.
Is there anyone else in this boat or am I crazy?
