Hi Gene ~ One Texas club my grandfather owned was called the Poodle Dog Inn. How's that for a name? I think it was in San Angelo or San Antonio. Another was called the White Castle, formerly named the Valley Country Club. That was in the '40s, before gambling there became illegal, and it was located, I believe, in New Mexico, just west of El Paso, Texas. My dad worked there for a while, as did many other gaming figures who later lived and worked in Las Vegas. My grandfather also ran some gambling operations in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and for a while ran the gambling at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. That was prior to the construction of the El Rancho Vegas. He had another operation in downtown El Paso called the Ambassador Club, or something like that. It probably wasn't that name, but a name like that . . . I'll have to check. He also had a club in Tucson, which didn't last long because it was mostly agricultural around there in those days, and the local population of farmers didn't have enough income to dedicate any of it to gambling. As to the names of his Colorado club (or clubs) I don't remember them. I'll have to do a little research on that.
