Occasionally I mention buying jewelry at yard sales while looking for chips. Here is what I got today. The top row is all gold except for the bracelet. Total weight is 12 grams including the stones. The silver items weigh 41 grams. Funny story goes with the small silver necklace. It was tangled up with a gold colored necklace and I could not get them apart. So I just offered the guy a quarter for them. He said ok and told me to pay his wife. I gave her a $10 bill since I had no change. She said it was not worth the effort to make change and I should just keep the necklace! The best news was when I got home and got them apart. The gold necklace if very faintly marked 14K!! (I had to use my 20 power loupe to see the marking). Needless to say Cindy grabbed it for herself since she makes beaded jewelry.
I may have overpaid a little for what I got today but I think I still got a good deal. I paid $91 for all of it including $75 for the 4 rings. I normally try to get things for about half of melt value. The fun is in the hunt.
