Jim, should doctors charge more to a rich man than a poor man?
They can legaly charge the rates you suggest. But it seems lawyers decide the ethics.
I am put off by most lawyers because of unprovable time spent at high rates. I just had a probate done and the lawyer sent me forms to review. It looked like a standard boiler plate form, where he (or his secrataty) put in incorrect information. I reviewed it and sent the corrections back to him. He fixed it for $120 and charged me another $30 for a letter telling me he fixed it. He was board certified, I had expected a higher standard because of it.
Months before another lawyer drew up papers for transfer of property (a house I sold). He got the BUYER and SELLER names backward! Duh!
SLOPPY WORK.... But the bill was RIGHT ON TIME, and no way to verify how much time he took to screw it up. (MANY) lawyers are a parasite on the American economy. (And I have 4 of them in the family)
