Yes, the envelope had the brass clasp which was not inserted through the hole. It was laying flat and the envelope flap was sealed on top of it. The purpose of the brass clasp is so that these type envelopes can be re-used over and over again without sealing them, such as when re-used for in-house mailings for large corporations outside the USPS, or passed hand-to-hand via individuals. I could have/should have simply put the keys in the original size 9" x 12" unfolded envelope and it would have went as a flat for less than half the $1.98 price I was charged for the much smaller size envelope with the same contents.

Well, at least Esther didn't get the postage due charges passed on to her. grin

The postage on 'unsealed' envelopes was less ~~~
