Those of you in the UK may understand just a little bit more, but our lovely daughter Emily, who is 11, has just passed the 11+ exams and will be going to the local grammar school here in Colchester.
Some of you may remember David Spragg posting when his daughter passed, and I'm sure he explained the system better than I can, but in short our education system in some counties (not all) in the UK have grammar schools which take the top stream of students. In Essex (the county where I live), only has 8 grammar schools for a population of around 1.5m people. Entrance is based on a set of 3 exams (Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning). Emily has worked hard for this, and it gives her a head start for the future.
