USPS needs some way to get out of the high labor costs and pension obligations. Same problem as the auto industry had. They should be talking to UPS and FEDEX about a buyout. Or maybe DHL, which has run the German postal service for about 15 years.

Do we really care whether the delivery trucks are red-white-blue, or brown?
