The original Reno Silver Club went broke and one of the original owners’ stayed in business, he was Karl Berge. The Silver Club was bought outright, by Barge, in 1969. The club remained small but Karl put in two $1 slot machines in which the payout was 95% not the standard 60% payouts. Other casino owners thought he was crazy. He had Bally’s build him a 19-machine carrousel for nickel slots except he wanted a $1 feature all set at 95% payouts!. A 5% return on a dollar machine was serious money and soon all the states major casinos had the 95% mainstay payouts. The Silver Club closed in 2009.
