In the scan below, you can see that the shoe chip has a center hole in the inlay. This seems to be a characteristic of a shoe chip, but what is the purpose of the hole? I was under the impression that it was a guide spot to use when drilling a hole in the chip, which would then be used to attach the chip to a shoe with a screw.
Or, is it a form of cancellation so that the chip cannot be cashed in, should it be removed and show up at the cage?
Or?...
BTW - I was asked what was with the 'bullet hole' under the chip? I believe it is a mounting hole for the chain/leash that keeps the shoe attached to the table.
