The previous auctions went off at $650 for Polynesia and $550 for Beachcomber.....if I remember right. That was before anyone knew about the find and thought the Polynesia was R10. I have a hard time believing that it be worth $400 with the find. Even if......Even if the book value is $400, how much would you be willing to pay in this market? Any auctions that I have seen over the past several months for chips with similar book value end for less.....much less. Maybe $150? $250 if the stars aligned and you had a couple of motivated competing bidders? Paying $500 is still way too high IMO.
I was in negotiations with the seller as well after the first auctions. He was a bit dodgy to say the least. He seemed willing to give me any numbers that would make me buy. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with him or his story. I think there could potentially be hundreds of these chips.
