I believe that Pam has nailed it. You sent in a manner that was not part of the deal and if the buyer knew it beforehand, it could have meant a no-bid. (I sure don't want to go to the Post office with the mail pick-up slip!)
But you can't expect the reciever to get and handle mail the way you would and evidently, he doesn't and it came back. As you were paid, you are obligated to deliver. I would just re-send it and send an email stating that you are correcting the shipping error.
This is your best avenue to not get negative feedback. (Sure hope there are no double-negatives there! )
If you just refund, then you do run the risk of negative feedback (if feedback can still be given in such a circumstance).
Again, just agreeing with Pam, but I believe she is sooooooo correct on this one.
