I've made additions to my previous post on scanning. I did some tests between an HP All-In-One scanner and an Epson. Here's the link:

Chips come out decent looking on an Epson. This is the original scan, no Photoshop, no re-touching, no circle-cropping.
Some white chips are a problem so place a piece of colored paper as background.
It's important to start off on the right foot when scanning your collection.
I'd like to add that an Epson scanner cost double over here. Even at twice the price I'm extremely happy with it.
