Mary was thirty-four years old and her mother despaired of her
ever finding a husband.
Then, one evening, Mary brought home Donald - a pleasant, if
rather not-too-smart looking young blonde haired man. She
introduced him to her mother and they all sat down to dinner.
Later on, it began to rain hard, with so much wind, thunder and
lightning that Mary's mother said to the visitor, "It is far too wet
out there for you to go home tonight, Donald. Now you just sit
there and Mary and I will fix up our guest room so you can stay
here tonight. What do you think, Donald?"
The young man agreed to stay the night. Mother and Mary went
upstairs to ready the guest room. They returned downstairs, only
to find Donald standing there soaking wet and dripping water all
over the floor.
Almost in unison, Mary and her mother asked him: "Where? What?
How come you're so wet?"
"I had to go home to get my pajamas."
