Yesterday I indicated that among bases that started with the letter 'L', that Ladd Air Froce Base in Fairbanks Alaska had issued chips. In fact, at least three different clubs from that base did so!
The (NCO) Open Mess as well as the Civilian Club both issued chips as did the Officers Club. Of these, I only have chips from the latter (and would like to acquire chips from the former, hint, hint).
Yes, in some cases, Civilians sometimes had there own mess on bases. If the base was large and had a large number of such employees, they neede some where to get a meal during the day as they were neither allowed to dine in the mess hall nor join the military asscoiated clubs (unless they were former military members).
Some bases ALSO had Closed Messes. For those of you who are not that familiar with the military, an OPEN mess was one were anyone with certain ranks could join as long as they paid the dues. A CLOSED mess was one were you could apply for membership, but had to be voted on by the other members before you could join.
None for sale today.
