My history only goes back to the early 80's as a Harrah's dealer. We used to send the "lumpy" dealers to Barney's to retrieve the "wheel crank" for the roulette wheel. Sometimes the Barney's floorman would tell them it is at Caesars down the street. Eventually the poor dealer would come back empty handed. The final reason for the closure of Barney's was a run on the crap table and not having enough cash on hand to buy the chips back. Those players should have kept the chips for us collectors.
Lumpy: a new dealer's hands would be sweaty they would turn the hand held deck of cards into a big lump.
Wheel crank: Obviously there is no such thing.
Wish I would have kept some of the chips from my dealer days. At the time the "cash in" value was way more important.....Doug
