In the mid-1980s when I was clerking at a state court, the "gold standard" protesters were challenging lots of court rulings, saying a court could not order them to pay taxes, child support, alimony, etc., because the dollar was not backed by gold.
My boss - a judge - got rid of those cases quickly by telling the protesters that the court did not order them to pay in paper money, and they were more than welcome to pay in gold. At face value.
