Thank you for your question. The term “Proof” describes a method of manufacturing. Proof coin are coins that are made with highly polished planchets struck with highly polished dies. A proof coin is always a proof coin no matter what happens to it during its existence.
A Proof-like coin is a coin that has an appearance of the mirror finish typical of proof coins. It has not been struck with highly polished dies. The reason for the proof-like appearance is that the dies used to mint the coin are new and the mint luster is at its greatest point.
