If most people that bid use their bid money toward buying one at full price, then the company would not do so well. In other words, if all the losing bidders did that, then they would have paid $100 for a $100 card (no profit for Quibid) and the winner bidder bought one at an $85+ discount. So, the company is gambling that many, if not most losing bidders do not buy the items at full retail (or their retail prices have to be pretty inflated).
