One day I was driving home from work from Atlantic City, NJ with my wife.
If you are familiar with Egg Harbor Township, NJ - at the corner of Fire Road and Bargaintown Road - right at the corner before you enter and cross to the Municipal Offices there is a lake on the right side, this lake is connected to the river on the left on Bargaintown Road Bridge - the bigger lake.
To make the story "long" I saw a big turtle the size of maybe more than 24 inches long, I stopped the car and got out - as I was about to pick it up by the tail side avoiding the snap - my wife screamed so loud - "Don't touch it". The driver behind me got out and the other driver from the other direction got out, now I backed out but the two drivers chased the turtle running toward the lake -they missed it.
The two blamed me for not catching it - I could have but with my wife screaming no way.
I have seen some families make them "pet", they drilled holes and tie them under the house.
You got plenty of turtles most probably big ones in your area, I bet!
