So we just spent a couple of weeks roaming around Nevada & California . Weather was perfect, company was wonderful, some gambling was good, some not-so-much . Saw the redwoods, fisherman's wharf, Carmel by the Sea, and drove up the coast highway...what a beautiful country we live in!!
We didn't have a lot of luck at the Long Beach collectible show, and Broadacres was a bust, but we did find a few things at some antique shops.
One of the things we found broke my heart ...until it occurred to me that these dice, many of them very rare, probably wouldn't exist if they weren't glued together to make a lamp!
here's a few close-ups...
The Santa Anita dice pictured here aren't in the book...but any dice from the Santa Anita are rare, and even the lowest price ones list for $200-$299 (of course that's for a pair that isn't glued into a lamp )
I've never seen this design of New Frontier dice before (unless they were included in Doug's picture a few weeks ago?, which is now gone ), but they are in the book at $300-$399...and there are at least 2 pairs in the lamp...maybe 3.
This exact "walking bear" logo, from the California Club, isn't in the book...but similar ones are in the book for $51-$75
The Monte Carlo dice in the lamp are in much better condition than the ones in the book...other than the glue, of course, but the book lists them at $200-$299 a pair.
Since I can't see all sides, I'm not positive exactly which Westerner dice these are, but they appear to list for $51-$75.
There is a Horseshoe die on top of the acrylic circle, it's mate is lower down on the lamp (with the horseshoe turned to the side ). Again, not in the book, but similar Horseshoes list at $51-$100 per pair. The Santa Anita seems to be a single, it was screwed on top of the lamp (would have been above the shade, but will never again be in that position) and listed at $200-$299 a pair.
As I said...heartbreaking, but the dice might not exist at all if they weren't in a lamp.
Has anyone done anything "crafty" with dice? The Santa Anita single has a HUGE hole drilled in it, and a very thin layer is left with the logo on it. I think I should fill the hole with some kind of acrylic, or nail polish, or something to make it a little sturdier?
I was hoping I could disassemble the lamp into dice, but a couple of them were loose and came out...one had a bit of the actual die that was above it (in other words, the glue didn't give out...the die material broke). The other one had part of the spot from the die above it. Soooooo...since I can't un-glue, I need to re-glue those 2 that came off. Best glue to use?
