I've just returned from a 9-day visit to Las Vegas, which allowed me one evening of 'play'. After a wonderful dinner with the Hartman's at a Downtown restaurant, some of us ventured over to the newly re-opened Plaza to get some of the re-opening $5 chips. Hearing how the old rack was still in-play, I noticed that the newer re-opening chips were easy to spot in the table game racks, as they had sharp edges (and less dirt and grime) than the older chips. At one blackjack table I noticed that one of the dealer stacks had quite a few 'newer' chips at the top, so I sat down and bought-in for $50 and specifically asked for chips from that stack.
I pulled 4 sharp-edged chips from the stack of 10 chips and was surprised to see that none were the newer re-opening chips, and in fact, were brand new $5 house chips. I immediately suspected that they might be re-order chips mixed in with the older rack and I would have a to get a couple (as a variation) before I left. But checking to see if they were different than the existing rack chips would have to await my return home.
Well, I am home now and sure enough, these very much seem like a re-order. However, the only difference is the placement location of the UV tag. This is also the case for the $1 chips, i.e., also appearing to be a re-order and the UV tag is in a different place.
So, it seems that the remodel of the casino area is very much in-line with the re-order of the same chips. Nearly all the older slot machines are still there, but new carpeting throughout, except there are a few spots where they left the old carpeting!
