Who are our enemy? 9/11 gave us a glimpse of one. Our enemy wears no uniform identifying them. We have declared war on them but we have essentially declared war on ghosts. It is much like guerilla warfare where the enemy can be standing next to you at any given time. The enemy is hatred of us and our way of life.
The aftermath of 9/11 we have lost many more people in the middle east in search of this elusive enemy. We have begun to suffocate ourselves as a nation, in knee-jerk reactions. Each new idea of protection is met with resistance because of personal freedoms and invasion of privacy. All the while we are vulnerable.
We are sitting on a time-bomb that may erupt at any time. World tensions mount as economies are stretched, religious beliefs are aggravated, and our laws violated by outsiders. Super powers watch closely like a tiger ready to pounce. It is a delicate situation. We alone possess enough destructive power to destroy the world.
I have enough to worry about. Pollution, devastating cosmic meteors, and natural disasters, just to name a few. Carl Sagon questioned if we as a society were intelligent enough not to self-destruct. I worry about that too,
