I saw a listing that said IVORY in the body of the listing but it did not list IVORY in the Title of the listing. Maybe I will try that later BUT...
I have been following this simular story about the Fed raiding the Gibson Guitar factory. I have two vintage Gibsons and the Les Paul has an Ebony fingerboard with Mother of Pearl & Abalone inlays and the Birdland has the same but a rosewood fingerboard. It seems that the Justice Department raided Gibson once in 2009 resulting in Gibson never being charged and again last week they raided them again with Homeland Security. It all has to do with them importing wood from India and Madagascar. This is really turning into a political hot potato because Gibson might be put out of business or worse, move to India to make their guitars.
I found this post on a blog: Be sure when you ship a guitar across state lines that you write on the box “Contains Wildlife Products.” It isn’t illegal to have it, to use it, to sell it, but it is illegal to ship it without labeling the box. Oh.. nobody knew that? Too bad, you’ll see your guitar never and be happy if you don’t get the $100,000 fine because you “should have known.”
I have flown with my Les Paul many times in the past but I have no plans to do that anymore BUT these two vintage guitars are worth a lot of money and I have thought about selling them on so it is a good thing I checked the law. All I would have to do is mark them "Contains Wildlife Products" and then worry about somebody stealing them from the shipper. How can this help protect the trees especially with 95% of these rare woods being exported from India and Madagascar to China?
