You made my day. I love Ft. Worth history and I read your post just before I went downtown to meet my daughter for lunch at the Kimball. Instead of going through the Stockyards on the way home as I usually do, I decided to drive the other direction down Main. I thought of your stories and wished I could have seen the city back in those days.
The Metropolitan must have been a pretty impressive place. The Hotel Texas is now a Hilton and the lot where the Metropolitain stood is mostly a park with a modern 2 or 3 story office building on the SE corner. Someday - when it's not 103 outside - I'll stop at the park and see if there's a marker relating to that day in 1963.
Ft. Worth was probably a lot more exciting in the 20's and 30's!
