Re: (NCR)-- Fascinating: text to speech

Actually, this technology is much older than you think. Windows has this feature built in (in the handi-cripple apps in Control Panel). I have used two types of this software before it came packed with windows. I began with voice recognition for typing- it also reads back selected text from any application, such as web pages, email, and others. It is handy for 'reading' long texts while doing other things. I remember I was so fascinated with it I wrote a greeting message for my answering machine and, in the robotic voice, recorded it to my telephone answering machine. Now, they all sound like that so the novelty of the idea has been lost.
