Yes, I know I left myself open with that title....
I picked up some pearl chips today. I am somewhat familiar with nacre chips however Im still learning and I know there are others that are curious about them in general but dont know where to start. I have a couple questions for anyone that can add some insight into these... If you can confirm or discount some of my assumptions about these i would appreciate any feedback. First of all... My guess is that these would have been most likely carved at Caro in Paris around early part of last century. It looks like these were part of a smaller set because the numbers on them are all pretty low (all under 100). I would assume that they were made from a spanish countries club however, probably not Spain. Usually when I see Spanish nacre chips they have the peseta symbol on them. My guess would be South America but they may be Cuba because I was told that they came from an older Cuban woman. I believe the key to figuring them out may be the LCS monogramed chip but it looks to be a little different than the others. My guess is that it is likely to be LSC and the C standing for Club or Casino. Question: Does the 2.50 denomination tend to signify a particular game? There are remnants of red coloring on 1/2 the edge of the Cinco and remnants of a stripe across the 25, did this color originally go across the face of these chips? What have I missed or not covered? I have traders on some however Id like to figure out where these hail from before doing much trading. Would a hotel use a small set like these for back room private games? Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks, Westen
