Sometimes, the notched example is the only remaining representation of the real thing!

Case in point, the notched $1,000 from The Orleans. This version was the original issue in 1996, but were almost immediately replaced with a different 1996 version that is still in-use today. But these have all been destroyed and only a couple of notched examples remain.

There are multiple variables that can and do have an impact of value of notched samples.
