Flamingo Capri - Post #8

Over the years I have been asked how the Flamingo Capri got its name. Was the Flamingo Capri associated with the Flamingo? Why was it called the Flamingo Capri? Until now I have not been able to specifically answer those questions. Until now I could only speculate.

All along I knew that George E. Goldberg was an owner of the original Flamingo Capri, but all documentation that I had previously seen did not mention any other owners. I also knew that the motel was a part of the Midwest Hotel Co. chain of hotels and motels, which Goldberg also owned.

Through a new friend in the chip hobby, Robert Stoldal, I have received a copy of an article published in the Los Angeles Times on June 14, 1959. I now know for sure that Bill Capri of the Flamingo Hotel was an owner with Goldberg in this motel venture. This also validates how the Flamingo Capri got away with using the same font in the Flamingo name as the Flamingo Hotel.

I'm still researching to see if Bill Capri retained any ownership rights when Englestad bought the Capri in 1971. Hopefully more on that in the near future.

The Flamingo Capri casino operations did not start until 1972.
