You asked about taking chips out of the plastic holders. If you use a camera that will probably be necessary. But I would encourage you to use a scanner for the pictures and do it at 100 DPI. Chip pictures taken with a camera typically do not turn out and most detail is lost. If you use a scanner I think you can get away with leaving them in the plastic holders.
