I rent cars at least 20 times a year, and I always rent from Alamo or National (owned by the same company). I always reserve an economy car and get free upgrades more than half the time. No pressure to buy their insurance. No hidden holds on your credit card above the actual rental charges. Sign up for their last minute deals and it can get real cheap. I had a 3-day rental in Greensboro NC a little more than a week ago, and my charges, including taxes and fees, were $57 total. I rented a car in Seattle last month for 3 days and the total cost was $61. They both have computer kiosks so you don't have to stand in line to get a car.
