I too have called notched chips "Samples" before, but in my opinion, true sample chips would be those with logos on the reverse.

Now thats not to say that it didnt come directly from Chipco as I have LOTS of chips that are notched that I know came directly from Chipco that are just regular chips without any advertising.

I actually prefer samples to have the advertising on the back as in my opinion much fewer of those were made and therefore they are less common.

Just my opinion though and what you showed is commenly referred to as a sample by many.
