Re: I'm always leery of these plain hot-stamp chip

Don, I respect your opinion on this, especially if a quantity of "rare" 40 year old chips suddenly pops up.

But there are differences that are noticeable --
The Black Orchid font is different from the Paulson sample (serif vs. non-serif).
Shiny hats, from the C&J days. (Does Paulson have ability to make shiny hats any more?? I didn't think so.)
Would Paulson make a "special" run for any customer for any price, and jeopardize their reputation?
Can Paulson make chips with inserts, like the $5 Black Orchids, that look like C&J era inserts (vs. appearance of current Paulson inserts?)

The only way I could see the chips being made in recent times is if someone had the right color C&J era blanks for all 3, then managed to hot stamp them with a convincing font. Not impossible, but not likely either.

What I'm saying is that I think the 3 Black Orchids on ebay appear genuine. I have no idea about the reported new find, as I haven't seen them - in person or even in pictures. Perhaps Charlie Rogers has seen them and could comment on their appearance.
