OK, my thanks to Terry, Mike and Coco! They reminded me of the tie-breaker rule!!
I have now looked at the email messages that came in and at which point each of the 3 tied players hit their highest score (25.5). But, before declaring the winner, lets review the answers and I give my thanks to each and every participant. While I especially thank those who submitted entries, I am certain that many more spent some time searching and I hope all had fun in their participations!!
Here then are my answers...
1. Table jam (dirt/grunge) has been digitally removed in A.
2. Apostrophe added to A.
3. Letter “E” has been moved closer to the letter “R”. In doing so, it was slightly rotated to maintain the overall arc alignment of the word “PLAYER”. The change to spot and record was the movement away from the letter “Y” or towards the letter “R”. To note the rotation was extremely observant, but by itself, it only received partial credit.
4. The parrot’s right wing, on Chip A is smaller than on Chip B, or larger on Chip B than Chip A. (Observation, for reasons unknown to me, the right wing does not have colorful feathers like the left wing.)
5. The parrot’s left wing feather tip extends to and touches the pirates left shoulder on Chip A. Note: This feather is a wing feather and NOT a tail feather.
6. The parrot’s left wing, middle feather (or 3rd feather from the parrot’s far left) has been made longer on Chip B (or shorter on Chip A).
7. The pirate’s nose has been made larger on Chip A, or smaller on Chip B. I did not accept the moustache as being bigger or smaller.
8. The parrot’s left leg, on Chip A, extends lower onto the pirate’s left shoulder, or it is flush to the height of the shoulder on Chip B.
9. The bottom of the pirate’s beard has been trimmed on Chip B or extended on Chip A. Not accepted was the affect this change had on the pirate’s shirt collar or opening at the collar.
10. The spot at which the blade passes through the hilt of the sword has been moved rightward, thereby making the blade of the sword longer, but just noting the longer blade length was NOT the correct answer. The correct answer need to describe the hilt/blade relationship.
11. Perhaps one of the most complex changes, the simple and most correct answer is that the arc of the sword has been increased on Chip B. The area of the sword seen in the highlight bubble was rotated counter-clockwise (CCW) using the right edge of the selected half of the sword as the pivot point. This then allowed the point of the sword to move slightly CCW and with the shifting of the letter “E” in “PLAYER” (see #3 above) the typical answer was the sword tip pointing to a different spot. This is true, but it also has a different arc.
12. The slash line of the dollar symbol on Chip A has been extended downward.
13. The base of the numeral “1” of the denomination on Chip A has been extended downward, thereby making the numeral on Chip A “taller” than on Chip B. This difference was difficult to see because the action of change 12 seemed to explain why the bottoms of the slash and the numeral were even.
14. The top edge of the blue insert at 8 o’clock is more jagged on Chip B, than it is on Chip A.
15. The pirate’s left shirt sleeve, on Chip B, at the wrist, has blunted a pointy tatter that appears on Chip A.
16. Part of the dagger’s hilt is under the pirate’s cumber bun on Chip A or over the cumber bun on Chip B.
17. One of the most difficult changes spotted was to extension of the tips of 2 shadows (black shading)of the cumber bun on Chip A, making the gap between to 2 a bit smaller than what they are on Chip B.
18. The triangular shape between the pirate’s legs is a gap that is back-filled with the color blue of the pirate’s coat/jacket. On Chip A it was changed to red and on Chip B it was left untouched. However, many of the replies indicated that the change was red vs. green, or black and only 1 blue. I allowed full credit just to note the difference between the two.
19. On Chip B, the tail end of the letter “S” in “CHARLES” was reduced shortened.
20. Chip A shows the location of “LAKE CHARLES” to be Iowa (“IA”) while Chip B reflects Louisiana (“LA”). (“LA” is the correct location, but for the contest, just noting the difference was the correct answer.)
21. Variously described as a zipper or fly, the change to note was that the curvature of both lines, if using a parenthesis as an example, was an open parenthesis “((“ on Chip A and close parenthesis “))” on Chip B.
22. The residual affect of making change 21, was to also change the shadowing at the top of the lines.
23. The lowest visible jacket button on the pirate’s jacket/coat on Chip B is smaller than the same button on Chip A.
24. The lowest visable button hole on the pirate’s jacket/coat on Chip B is missing on Chip A.
25. A second shirt button on Chip A, somewhat hidden by the pirate’s sword, is missing ob Chip B.
26. Variously described as the back of the hilt, or sword handle, or gold decoration of the jacket sleeve, one of the two gold colored spots is missing from Chip B.
27. The pirate’s right jacket/coat cuff is closer to the jacket/coat at the pirate’s waist on Chip A than it is on Chip B.
28. The most difficult difference to spot was the shading on the left breast area of pirate’s jacket/coat/ Chip A has less shading than does Chip B. The red x’s show the transition points from shading to no shading on both chips.
Well, those are the 28 Differences.
As noted previously, at the forced end of the Contest, there were 3 submissions that all had 25.5 points. All 3 were received (via email) on the 29th of May. The winning entry was date/time stamped as 10:08 am and was submitted by:
Hojin Kyung
Please join me in Congratulating Hojin for his keen eye! (Truth be known, Hojin would have also been the winner of the Flamingo Differences Challenge, but his submittal did not meet the requirements of the Rules.) He has obviously corrected this error, but perhaps I now need a way to handicap his participation!
As I mention previously, the 3rd intallment of the Differences Challenge will be presented at the Convention, simultaneously with an on-line version, here on TheChipBoard, in June!
Congratulations again to Hojin and just for perspective, the Runner-Up was Rich Hanover at 12:27 PM, followed by Jim Hickle at 4:35 PM.
Hojin, please pick your prize from the below pictured chips:
Thank everyone!
Jim
