If you've been exposed to horse racing at all, you've probably heard the phrase "Horses for Courses", which basically means some horses run better on certain tracks than others ... turf or dirt, or different locales, etc.
I've been pondering if certain venues are better (or worse) for certain types of chips as well. Selling venues include TheChipBoard, as well as eBay, Heritage Auctions, Chip Chat Auctions, the club's annual convention auction, sales tables at the convention and other chip shows, direct sales & trade lists, etc. JackpotAuctions.com was once an alternative, but not any longer. Mail lists were an alternative once, but email and individual websites, like MarlowCasinoChips.com and many others, have replaced them.
As a seller, selection of the best venue to realize the highest price (net of commissions and fees) is important. Maximum exposure to the target market buyers for each chip is important too. For buyers, finding the lowest price is a key factor, along with a decent selection of the chips you're looking for.
I'm thinking that eBay still has the broadest exposure on a year-round basis, for most types of chips. But for certain higher-end, scarce chips, the competition at a specialized auction, such as Chip Chat, may produce even better results (Or maybe it's just the Doug Dust he adds with his descriptions?)
Any thoughts or comments?
