I have the iPad 2 and have an app called "read it later". Are you familiar with it? Sounds very similiar. I basically go to read it later list dot com, and add the url to my account and I can read it offline, no internet. It comes up as just text or you can bring up the entire website, pics and all if you have wifi or 3g service.
