This is the third set...

that they've had up for auction this year. The first sold for opening bid; the second as I recall went for $1,050. This is the third or fourth time (that I have seen) that they've had this set up for sale and it hasn't received opening bid.

To me the mistakes in the table numbers are just laziness-- they seem to have copied their previous auctions without changing the description at all to match what they are currently selling. As far as the R9/R10 goes, they are likely 'relying' on what the price guides say, although with how many they've sold (and still have?) they have to know that the rarities previously published are no longer valid.

While not an excuse for any intentional misleading on their part that may be present, hopefully anyone spending that much on 4 chips will be informed enough not to bid based on the rarity that they quote, and as it is $250 each is probably a fair price. I paid $1,000 for 3 of them at the beginning of the year (not from them), and if I hadn't pulled the trigger on those I would consider picking these up. I bet if they put them all up for auction individually they'd end up selling for at least the $1,000 in total (of course that will diminish if they're sitting on boxes and boxes of them and keep selling). I'd still like a black one.

Of course it would be best if they'd be forthright about the quantities they have, but I'm pretty sure even if you could ask them the question they wouldn't tell you. Information is money, and these guys aren't going to give anything away for free-- it's business. That's not an indictment of them necessarily, but they aren't club members and so can firmly embrace the mantra of 'caveat emptor'.

Do they have a local tutor/writer (chipwise)?
Maybe "Chumley" listed it. Not everyone is perfect
