Ya just gotta ask! A large subdivision near us had its annual neighborhood yard sale today. When ever I go now I ask if anyone has casino chips (of course) or any jewwelry or silver coins. I found several places where they were selling sterling jewelry for very reasonable prices but no chips anywhere. Early on I asked at one place that didn't have any jewelry on display if they had any and the girl said that she had a diamond ring for sale. She pulled it out of her coat pocket and I saw a small silver colored ring with 3 small diamonds in it. I asked what she wanted for it and she looked at her boyfriend/ex-husband/friend with benefits said he $100. I offered $75 and he said a jewelry store had offered $90. I offered $80 and he took it. So why did I buy it? Even though the diamonds are not big (around 5 points each) the band isn't gold but platinum. With platinum at $1800 per ounce and the ring weighing 2.6 grams there is $150 worth of platinum in it plus the value of the diamonds. You don't always find nice chips (especially around here) but the fun is still in the hunt.
